Abstract

Environmental post colonialism in Urdu literature represents a new dimension of research and criticism, linking literary expression with biological crises, land, water, forests, and the exploitation of natural resources. The shift from postcolonial criticism to environmental postcolonial criticism offers an opportunity to examine literature from a fresh critical perspective. The imprints of nature and environment are already present in Urdu poetry, fiction, Sufism, the Progressive Movement and modern literature, yet there is now a pressing need to connect them with global discourses. This critical orientation portrays literature not merely as a reflection of human emotions but also as a mirror of environmental and globally experiences, thereby granting Urdu literature new significance within the global literary landscape. It suggests that through this lens, Urdu literature can not only expand its historical relevance but also engage meaningfully with contemporary global challenges.
