Abstract

Urdu Criticism springs from the Persian and Arabic sources. Persian Criticism is the sequence of Arabic criticism. Though the Persian criticism was nominated by Arabic criticism but in spite of all Persian criticism maintained its individuality. After the formation of Pakistan, Urdu criticism has been divided into three phases i.e. Progressive criticism, criticism of Halqa.e. Arbab-e- Zauq and Eastern criticism. Research indicates that there are a number of common values between East and West. Ghalib and Iqbal are such a significant topic in Urdu criticism that even every school of thought has put ample light on it. In this article, features of Eastern criticism are described. It has also been narrated that all notable writers have derived motivation and guidance from Arabic and Persian sources of knowledge. On the other hand, Eastern criticism has been alleged being conservative. But Eastern criticism is inclined towards Classical Literature, indeed.
