A Research and Critical Study of Selected Sketches of Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi

Abstract

Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi is a distinguished figure in Urdu literature, recognized for his versatility as a poet, short story writer, columnist, humorist, critic, and sketch writer. His association with the Progressive Writers’ Movement, where he served as General Secretary, reflects his dedication to social awareness through literature. As an editor of Naqoosh and later Funoon, he significantly influenced literary trends. His sketch collections, Mere Hamsafar and Mere Hamqadam, vividly portray notable personalities with artistic depth. This paper examines selected sketches of Abdul Majeed Salik, Ghulam Rasul Mehr, Chiragh Hasan Hasrat, Dada Amir Haider, and Mian Abdul Hamid. Qasmi presents their personal traits while capturing the socio-cultural environment of their time. His sketches demonstrate mastery in characterization, subtle humor, and expressive language, establishing him as an important sketch writer.
