Abstract

This article presents a critical study of Nadar Log by Abdullah Hussain, examining its thematic depth, socio political consciousness, and artistic construction. The novel spans the period from the Partition of India in 1947 to the mid-1970s, portraying the ideological, class based, and institutional contradictions of the newly formed Pakistani state. It explores issues such as migration trauma, feudal dominance, labor exploitation, martial law, suppression of press freedom, and the crisis of East Pakistan. Through characters like Aijaz and Sarfaraz, the narrative reflects tensions between state authority and individual conscience. The depiction of brick-kiln laborers foregrounds systemic oppression rooted in feudal and capitalist structures. Stylistically, the novel employs dialogue, reportage, and symbolic characterization to construct a layered social reality. Overall, Nadar Log emerges as a significant literary document of Pakistan’s historical, political, and class struggles.
